TEF as it is popularly called these days is hosting its 3rd entrepreneurship forum in Lagos this year. Tony.O. Elumelu, of one the biggest economists and philanthropists in Africa who established the foundation in 2010 is well known for what he brings to the business and entrepreneurship sphere. The United Bank for Africa, Heirs holdings and Transcorp chairman is well known as the prime mover of ‘Africapitalism’, a term which he himself coined.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is an African non-profit organization headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, based on his belief that, with the right support, entrepreneurs can be empowered to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s prosperity and social development. The Foundation is intent on charting a new course for African philanthropy and does not operate merely as a grant-awarding organisation. It is a pioneer member of the Global Impact Investment Rating System (GIIRS). (Wikipedia)

The entrepreneurship forum which happens to be the third of its kind is being host in Lagos from the 13th to the 14th October. Over 1500 corporate firms, media houses, incubators, investors, SMEs and entrepreneurs will be present, African and foreign. The event of last year which took place in October 2016 was largely described as a $100 million flagship programme because that was the amount invested in the forum.

The event is channeled majorly towards job creation, research, capacity building, networking investors and solving several social and economic problems. It is a meeting point for investors to rub minds and shakes hands on future projects that will drive the African economy to the heights, a dream which Tony Elumelu describes with the name ‘Africapitalism’. The Tony Elumelu Foundation is committed to the economic transformation of Africa. It is partnering with various firms and investors to push the private sector forward and foster entrepreneurship and leadership development.

“ As an entrepreneur myself, I understand what it feels like to yearn for a lifeline, to hope for a ‘big break’, to look forward to enjoying some luck.”

– Tony O. Elumelu (CON)

With several business leaders and policy makers from across Africa coming together, the event could be platform upon which we’ll build the New Africa. TEF has invested millions of dollars into creating thousands of jobs across Africa in the past three years. The speakers at the event will include the likes of:

  • Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, UNited Nations Development Programme
